Tralee, County Kerry

Tralee is a popular town in County Kerry, Ireland. It is located in the southwest corner of Ireland and on the northern side of the Dingle Peninsula. It is the largest town in Kerry with a population of 22, 744 as per 2006 census. This Norman town was founded by Anglo Normans in 13th century and was a stronghold of the Earls of Desmonds. During the 19th centry the modern layout of Tralee was created. Tralee witnessed severe violence during the Irish war of independence as well as the Civil war that broke up during 1919-1923.

One of the country’s biggest indoor entertainment centres for children is the Toby World in Tralee, County Kerry. Visitors enjoy visiting Kerry County museum in Ashe Memorial hall that reflects public architecture. This museum has been collecting historical, archaeological and cultural heritage of County Kerry since 1992 and currently it treasures over 4,000 objects. The building Ashe Memorial Hall was constructed after the name of Thomas Ashe, a Kerry man and a member of the Irish Volunteers. He died in 1917 while on a hunger strike during his imprisonment in Mountjoy.

Today it is an offbeat tourist destination and is well connected to roads, ports, railways and airways. This town is famous for its Tralee Races and International Rose of Tralee Festival.  Such events are held every year on August weekends and remain the chief attractions for visitors. Other events of interest in Tralee are Circuit of Kerry Rally, Bumble Bee Childrens Festival, Kerry Home and Motor Show and Samhlaiocht Kerry Arts Festival.

People of all ages enjoy these events. One of Ireland’s largest waterworlds is the Aqua Dome. It showcases exciting features that attracts children and adults.  The entire area is patrolled by qualified lifeguards. You can relax in the lazy rivers, fly the flume, enjoy wave pools, slides, bubbles, spa pools, geysers, geysers and children’s pools etc. The Aqua Dome viewing area is large and majestic. It offers platform for watching the activities in the pool while enjoying a steam or sauna in the Aqua Dome Health Suite with water message bed.
