County Cork

Cork, which is the second city of Ireland, is widely known as the city of history. The place of much significance in the Irish civil war 1922 known by the name of Rebel County is also located in this county. The assassination of Michael Collins in this county resulted in the end of civil war in Ireland. The city was originally developed from a monastery built by St Finbarr in the 7th century. It is also home to the oldest yacht club in the world.
Cork being the largest county of Ireland has a great variety of geographical features. From inland rivers and river valleys to rolling farmland and sea eroded cost line, you can find everything here. Top quality beaches and food makes it one of the finest tourist destinations. It is a home for many famous artists, musicians and writers who impart its cultural output. There are many venues where live music events are held, visitors can hear anything from traditional Irish music to more avant- garde sounds. With many large stores located to the Patrick Street, this place is also a shopper’s paradise.

Cork is a growing metropolitan today with plenty of attractions suited for people of different tastes. For people who are interested in studying about the ancient culture, this place consists of some most stunning architecture like the tower of Shandon church which is also known as Four-Faced Liar and  Saint Finbarre’s Cathedral originally built in the 7th century was again built by architect William Burges in the late 1800’s in Gothic style.   In county Cork there are seven attractions that are a must see for the Tourists who visit, Blarneys castle, Charles Fort, Fota Wildlife Park, Cork City gaol, Bantry House and Gardens, Cobh Heritage Center, West Cork Model Railway.

Blarney Castle was built by the once king of Munster Cormac McCarthy. It is one of the top attractions in Ireland where people come from all over the world to kiss the famous Blarney Stone on top of the castle. The castle you see today is 600 years old. Charles fort is the magnificent star shaped fort found at edge of the harbor outside the town of Kin sale in country cork. Fota wildlife park lies in the southeastern part of Cork City in the south of Ireland, it features over 30 mammals and 50 species of birds making it a family destination. Cork City Gaol takes you back in time to see what the kind of life in Irish prison was. It is located in an area called Sunday’s well, 2km to the north west of Patrick’s street in the city centre.

Bantry house was built by the Earl of Bantry, today looked after by his descendants. Visitors can wander around the beautifully manicured gardens or just relax in the tea rooms.

The Cobe heritage centre is the first port of call for visitors to the town, you can study about the emigration that took place in Cobh as well as the story of the two ships Titanic and Lusitania.
